East Falls: The Mike McCann Team’s Insider Guide

East Falls is truly a hidden gem. This area has its own unique sense of community and culture and is often referred to as an “urban village.” Though East Falls has remained surprisingly undiscovered for quite some time, it is apparent that this is about to change. Keep an eye out for a lot of new businesses and homes popping up in this neighborhood! East Falls has all of the benefits of Philadelphia while maintaining a quiet, off-the-beaten-path atmosphere. It is easy to see why many Philadelphians are happy to call East Falls home and why many more are looking to move in!

Scenery

East Falls has some breathtaking scenery. Situated on the banks of The Schuykill River with easy access to Wissahickon Park, East Falls contains a lot of unsuspecting natural beauty that is complimented by the urban landscape of historic homes and the gorgeous Falls Bridge. The Schuykill River is one of the most beautiful sights in Philadelphia and the Schuykill River Trail provides a space for joggers, bikers and walkers to escape the day-to-day and take in some of the peaceful, harmonious Philadelphia foliage. Wissahickon Park is a 10,000 acre paradise for hikers, bikers, animal watchers or people that just need a brief break from the regular hustle-and-bustle of the city. The historical charm of this neighborhood, mixed with all of the natural beauty that Philly has to offer, combines to create a magnificently scenic urban sprawl.

History

The East Falls neighborhood is deeply embedded in the history of Philadelphia and residents love to celebrate this fact! The East Falls Historical Society works hard to preserve the unique roots of this area, collecting artifacts and working to preserve all of East Falls’ historic buildings. In addition to all of their preservation work, they are constantly producing fun community events that truly celebrate the history of East Falls. With architectural tours, food and drink festivals and all out parties in historical dwellings, it is clear that East Falls loves to show off their community pride and historical significance.

Bonus! One event that you definitely want to keep your eyes open for is the Dance on the Falls Bridge. Boogie on this beautiful bridge to live music by moonlight!

We love going out to eat and East Falls has a diverse supply of restaurants to try.  If you want to keep it quick and simple, head over to Franks Pizza for pizza, platters, sandwiches and sides. Frank’s Pizza serves up high quality food at great prices, simple as that. In Riva is a classic Italian restaurant that has an atmosphere that combines classy and casual for an upscale pizza joint feel. The chefs at In Riva are extremely talented and the phenomenal food will keep you coming back for more. We love the outdoor dining and tasty food at the Trolley Car Café. They even have an adorable menu for doggies! Fiorino is a high-class Italian restaurant with dazzling and authentic dishes. The chefs at Fiorino even offer cooking classes so you can take some of these recipes home! You don’t have to go far to find a great meal in East Falls.
The Bar Scene

We love the mellow, down-to-earth bar scene in East Falls. The Falls Taproom serves up good brews and good food for those of you looking for a classy night out. Their dinner menu is delicious and the beer and wine menus go on for days with some great selections. Billy Murphy’s Irish Saloon is a cornerstone of East Falls that has the look, feel and atmosphere of a genuine Irish pub.  Cranky Joe’s is a causal and affordable sports bar with quizzo, pool tables and great drink specials. No matter where you go, you’ll find a charming spot that you’ll quickly feel at home in.l
