Guide to Philly Parks

The McCann Team’s Guide to Philly Parks

Hello, friends. Things are finally starting to warm up in Philly and we can’t keep our minds from drifting to all of the enjoyment that comes along with this gorgeous spring weather. One of our favorite things to do after a long workday is to stop off in one of Philly’s lovely parks and clear our heads. Fortunately, this city has countless parks to choose from, varying greatly in size and atmosphere. Now, we understand that everyone has their preference and that this is up for debate, but we wanted to fill you in on some of our favorite places to chill out in Philly.

  1. Fitler Square

This park is a half-acre, hidden oasis in Center City, filled with shady trees, quirky animal statues, lush greenery and beautiful gardens. It hosts a multitude of neighborhood events and boasts a fascinating history. Fitler Square is huge benefit for nearby residents and definitely worth traveling to if you are in need of a serene and family friendly environment.

  1. Rittenhouse Square Park

Rittenhouse Square Park is one of Philly’s most crowded parks which, we feel, is really part of the fun. The atmosphere is always positive with people milling through, socializing or simply taking it easy on one of the many comfortable benches. The park features fountains, sculptures, gardens and lots of lawn space. It is also surrounded by restaurants and stores, making it ideal for an impromptu picnic or shopping break.  Rittenhouse Square is definitely one of the liveliest parks around.

  1. Washington Square Park

If you are seeking some peace and quiet in the middle of the city, Washington Square Park is the place to go. Humongous trees, historical sites and wide trails mark the landscape with a picturesque fountain as their classy and calming centerpiece. This park has plenty of space and you will definitely be able to find a private space to kick back and take in the scenery. Next time you are buzzing through Center City, take some time to stop and appreciate the day in Washington Square Park.

  1. Fairmount Park

Fairmount Park consists of endless acres of forests and greenery that allow you to truly escape from the day-to-day. This park has numerous trails, historic mansions a Japanese garden and multiple athletic courses.  Many people are shocked to find out that a park this large exists within the city limits and we urge you to explore its expansive grounds. With a variety of attractions, this park has something for any outdoor enthusiast.

  1. Schuylkill River Park

Ah, the Schuylkill River Park, our favorite little getaway within the city. This magnificent park has a community garden, and places for puppies, children and adults to play. This relaxing environment will easily lull you into a peaceful state and allow you to spend hours gazing at the lovely scenery. The absolute best part of this park is that it provides access to the Schuylkill River Trail, one of the most scenic pathways in the entire city that is perfect for biking, jogging or leisurely strolls.  We cannot get enough of this beautiful destination!

Feel free to check out some of our favorite spots and please let us know about some of yours. We hope to see you at one of these breathtaking public spaces, Philly!
