Stephen Starr’s Kitchen (and House) Is for Sale for $2.5 Million

Have you been dreaming of the day when you would be inside the home kitchen of a celebrity chef?  Well now’s your chance.  Chef Stephen Starr’s kitchen (and home) is on the market.  The asking price for this stunning home?  A mere $2.5 million.

Located in the Fitler Square section of Center City, this listing is not short on amenities.  The 6,000 square foot home comes with three bedroom suites and five bathrooms.  It also boasts a roof deck, Lutron lighting throughout, a Zen garden and limestone floors.

But what about the kitchen?  Designed by Philly-based architect, kitchen designer and housewares expert Joanne Hudson, the room often thought of as the warm center of the home is “opulently functional”.  The kitchen has a modern design with classic details – such as the red Wolf and Miele refrigerator.  A huge center island is the focus of this inviting space, and will surely be the place where everyone will want to congregate.

The home makes splendid use of an open floor plan, seamlessly connecting the kitchen, dining room and sitting area.  This means that cooking, eating, watching TV and socializing can all happen in the same space. The design beautifully capitalizes on the trend of modern living where the kitchen is the center of our everyday life.

Stephen Starr is a successful American chef and restaurateur who heads up the Starr Restaurant Organization.  He’s been a staple of the Philly scene since the 1980s, serving up a blend of food and entertainment. Starting out at the age of 21 with Grandmom Minnie’s, a diner serving food by day and comedy by night, he later opened Starr’s, a   cabaret featuring the likes of Jerry Seinfeld and Pat Benatar – before they became famous.  Later he opened Ripley Music Hall and The Concert Company, and is responsible for bringing large-scale stadium acts to Philadelphia including Madonna, Lionel Richie, The Eurythmics, U2, Bruce Springsteen, Cyndi Lauper and George Michael.

In 1990, Starr sold his company to Electric Factory Concerts and devoted himself to the hospitality industry full-time.  Starr currently owns more than 20 restaurants in Philadelphia, New York City, Fort Lauderdale and Atlantic City.  His honors include “Restaurateur of the Year” from both Bon Appetit and Zagat. He has also appeared as a guest judge on Season 5 of Top Chef.

Starr’s signature is to take something ordinary and turn it into something extraordinary, creating complete environments with an artistic approach.  Not only is that true for his restaurants, but that philosophy extends to his home as well.  So if you’re in the market for a special property to call home, Stephen Starr has cooked up just the thing for you.  This is a truly unique property that is sure to inspire it’s next owner.
