Vegging out in Philly

Did you know Philadelphia has a booming vegetarian/vegan restaurant scene? The vegetarians (and omnivores) here at The Mike McCann Team can’t help but feel pretty spoiled with all of these amazing local options! Even the avid meat-eaters on our team agree that they have been pleasantly surprised by how well Philly does vegan and vegetarian food. So, if you are a vegan, vegetarian or just curious as to what’s out there, check out some of our favorite restaurants below. We promise you will not be disappointed!

Miss Rachel’s Pantry If you are looking for an adorable atmosphere, communal dining and, most importantly, mouth-watering vegan food, then head over to West Passyunk Avenue and visit Miss Rachel. Not only is Miss Rachel one of the sweetest people you will ever meet, but this girl can cook. We’ve never had anything she’s served that was not perfect! Miss Rachel offers catering, meal delivery and take-away picnic packs-perfect for a summer evening in one of Philly’s gorgeous parks! We suggest the beautiful Dickinson Square Park in Pennsport. If you really want the full-fledged experience of everything that Miss Rachel’s pantry has to offer, we recommended booking yourself a seat at her Farmhouse Table. This communal dining extravaganza is the perfect showcase of Miss Rachel’s skill. With a constantly evolving four course menu offering options such as “tempura tofu in spicy, creamy sauce with edamame puree” and “wild mushroom tartlet with herbed cashew cream,” Miss Rachel really knows how to wow her guests!

HipCity Veg – Okay, HipCity Veg is definitely a must-stop spot for anyone that is even passing through Philadelphia. Their food is so good that it makes you just want to dance with culinary joy. With two locations, one in Rittenhouse and one in University City, no matter where you are, you can easily enjoy their delicious cuisine! We haven’t tried everything on HipCity’s menu but, in all honesty we have come pretty close. An office favorite is definitely the HipCity ranch which has an I-can’t-believe-it’s-not-meat affect, tasting exactly like an all-white meat chicken breast covered in ranch dressing with all the fixin’s. De-Licious! Honorable mention goes to the Heavy-hitting Fajita Wrap and the delightfully light chopped med Salad. Also, if you are looking for a quick power boost on the go, grab yourself one of the famous fruit and veggie infused Groothies.

  • Pure Fare – Now, Pure Fare is not 100% vegan or vegetarian but it is, as their storefront proclaims, 100% good. Pure Fare is ridiculously healthy and ridiculously delightful. Their comfortable, minimalist dining room is lined wall to wall with super healthy salads, sandwiches and snacks. Pure Fare has truly made an art of making the most nutritious foods taste great. It’s not often that you leave a restaurant raving about the kale and brussels sprouts, right? And after you have your fill of greenery, make sure to swing by the dessert counter and pick up a banana cookie or sweet potato brownie. They’re delectable.
  • Sabrina’s Café – We would definitely categorize Sabrina’s Café as the ultimate compromise between carnivores and herbivores for a dinner outing. Sabrina’s menu combines all of the meaty, home-style food you could ask for with a plethora of vegetarian friendly dishes. We are major fans of the vegetarian cheesesteak which is definitely one of the best in the city. If you are looking for a convenient tasty compromise that will please the whole family, Sabrina’s Café is the way to go! Plus, with locations in the Italian Market, Art Museum Area, University City and the suburbs in Wynnewood and BYOB at 3 of the locations (all but the University City one), you really can’t go wrong!

So now it’s your turn Philly! Let us know if you try some of these fantastic restaurants and tell us what you think. We would love to hear where we should go next!
