Hunger Games’ Josh Hutcherson Buys Home Previously Owned by Heath Ledger, Ellen DeGeneres

What do you do when you get contract for a second and third installment of the “Hunger Games” movie?

Buy a house from a Hollywood celebrity, of course.

And that is what Josh Hutcherson did. The American film and television actor, who also appeared in “Bridge to Terabithia” and “Journey to the Center of the Earth”, purchased the previous Hollywood Hills home of Heath Ledger.

The house, dubbed as the “Tree House” by locals because of its dense foliage surrounding it, was once the property of Ellen Degeneres. Heath Ldger and his ex-girlfriend, Michelle Williams, bought it in August 2005 for $2.1 million and lived there until the birth of their daughter, Matilda, in 2007. After Heath Ledger’s death in 2008, the home was sold for $2.5 million and was again re-listed for $2.995 million after it bounced off the real estate market for some time.

The 1,861-square-feet, mid-century house was built in 1951 and has two bedrooms, and two bathrooms. It has over 2,000 square feet of outdoor living area, which also includes multiple decks that are hidden by the trees. The deck has spacious seating areas There is a movie projector and lounge area in one of the decks, together with with a barbecue and dining area.

The house, which is situated on as secluded hillside location, also sits behind on a long, gated drive that is commonly seen in many celebrity homes today.
